Cross Country racing is as challenging as it is elegant. A cross country cyclist is taken to the limits of both physical endurance and technical skill as they push themselves over harsh terrain at incredible speeds. Whether you are a recreational rider with a taste for adrenaline, an amateur hopeful or an olympic champion, the demands from your cross country rig are the same; Speed and efficiency. No other company delivers speed and efficiency better than Shimano and no other group delivers a winning edge for cross country riders better than Shimano XTR Race.
One of the fastest ways to increase both speed and efficiency at the same time is to drop weight. The new XTR Race Front Disc Brake Set BR-M987/BL-M987 is the lightest hydraulic disc brake system that Shimano has ever offered. They lose none of the power but drop 40 grams worth of mass per wheel compared to the previous M985 brakes. Shimano has gone to a two-piece caliper made of magnesium, the combination of which drops weight, adds stiffness and manages heat build-up more effectively. At the control end of the (brake) line, a new, beyond-svelte, I-Spec lever body gets a new profile, carbon lever blade and titanium fasteners. Just like the caliper, the master cylinder is made of magnesium. The combination of Shimano ingenuity and high quality construction make the XTR Race brake set the perfect fit for your lightweight, efficient and, most importantly, blisteringly fast cross country racing machine.
